Dear Reader,
October is here and so is my Cover Reveal for Ladies of the Lake!
I’m thrilled to share this cover with you before it goes public. You deserve first glimpse!
Here is the back cover writeup:
The beloved author of Saving Amelie and Night Bird Calling returns with a transformative new novel about the wonder and complexities of friendship, love, and belonging, perfect for fans of Lucy Maud Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, and Lauren Willig’s Band of Sisters.
When forced to leave her beloved Prince Edward Island to attend Lakeside Ladies Academy after the death of her parents, the last thing Adelaide Rose MacNeil expects to find is three kindred spirits. The “Ladies of the Lake,” as the four girls call themselves, quickly bond like sisters, vowing that wherever life takes them, they will always be there for each other. But that is before: Before love and jealousy come between Adelaide and Dorothy, the closest of the friends. Before the dawn of World War I upends their world and casts baseless suspicion onto the German American man they both love. Before a terrible explosion in Halifax Harbor rips the sisterhood irrevocably apart.
Seventeen years later, Rosaline Murray receives an unsuspecting telephone call from Dorothy, now headmistress of Lakeside, inviting her to attend the graduation of a new generation of girls, including Rosaline’s beloved daughter. With that call, Rosaline is drawn into a past she’d determined to put behind her. To memories of a man she once loved . . . of a sisterhood she abandoned . . . and of the day she stopped being Adelaide MacNeill.
Release date is scheduled for July 2023. It will soon be available for pre-order.

On November 10 I’m looking forward to joining award winning authors Tessa Afshar, Heidi Chivaroli and Carrie Turansky for A Night of Hope with readers. We’ll all share how the Lord is working in our lives, hoping that you’ll also find encouragement in your daily walk. We’ll share a little from our latest books and highlight Tessa’s new book, The Hidden Prince, to be released that very day, as well as some fun giveaways. Online attendance is limited to 300 but the event will be recorded and can be shared later. Autographed copies of our latest books can be purchased the week of the event. I hope to see you there!

Cathy,
My name is Vickie Henry from Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana, Texas. We have a book club that meets once a month September thru May and have since March of 2016. Promise Me This was the first book that we read! In November of 2021 we read Night Bird Calling and next Tuesday for our November meeting we have read A Hundred Crickets Singing! Last year I had the ladies rate the nine books we had read and Night Bird Calling was the favorite hands down. I subscribe to your newsletter but never thought to write to you about my current dilemma. I would love to have the family tree to help make it better to sort out the Belvederes. I think the ladies would be delighted. You are an author truly blessed by God. We love your books and will continue to read them. Thank you so much if you are able to provide this for us. Much love and blessings to you, Vickie Henry
Vickie, what a pleasure to hear from you, and what an honor that your book club has read so many of my books. Thank you!
As for the Belvideres, perhaps the following will help:
I did not give names to each of the characters in the family history in my books, so for those characters I will mention them by their role within the family (such as wife, daughter, son, etc.)
Horace Belvidere married his wife. Together they bore three children:
1. Elliott, who married Emma (died in childbirth). Their only child was a daughter, Eleanor (Ellie)
2. Minerva (Minnie) Belvidere (did not marry in the book, but we assume from her letter that she eventually married the man she met in Dare County, NC)
3. Grayson Belvidere (resident villain) married Rose. Together they bore two children, Hyacinth (who never married or bore children) and Camellia, who married and bore Rosemary.
When Camellia and her husband died in a tragic accident, Rosemary went to live with her Aunt Hyacinth, who raised her.
Rosemary married (an abusive husband) and gave birth to Lilliana Grace, who ran away from her abusive husband to live with her Grandaunt Hyacinth. Lilliana eventually married Reverend Jesse Willard. At the end of A Hundred Crickets Singing Lilliana Grace is pregnant.
So, as you can see, most of the story follows the family line of Grayson and Rose’s daughters, Hyacinth and Camellia, and on through Rosemary and Lilliana.
I hope that’s helpful, Vickie. If ever you’d like to do a Zoom meeting with your book club about one of my books you’re reading I’d be happy to do that. I hope you have a wonderful meeting on Tuesday evening!
On Thursday evening, November 10, I’m dong a free virtual event with three other authors–Tessa Afshar, Heidi Chiavaroli, and Carrie Turansky. It’s called Night of Hope. We’ll be sharing what the Lord is doing in our lives and a little about each of our latest books. I’ll share A Hundred Crickets Singing. You might like to let the ladies in your book club know in case they’d like to join in. You can register through the link given in my newsletter and blog. Even if they can’t listen that night they’ll receive a replay link for playing later by signing up.
Many thanks for writing, and God’s blessings for you and all there,
Cathy
Cathy,
Thank you so much for the Belvidere family information. You made it so simple. The ladies will be grateful. When I was looking at my book list I realized we also read Until We Find Home in March of 2018. That was the book that made me want to know more about the Lake District in England. I never had heard of it before!
Congratulations on your Christy Hall of Fame induction last year!
Have a happy holiday season,
Vickie
